California Stewardship Network welcomes new co-chair
Today, July 1, California Forward (CA Fwd) and its California Stewardship Network welcome Heidi Hill Drum, CEO of the Tahoe Prosperity Center as new co-chair of the network. Drum will serve alongside Oscar Chavez, assistant director of the Sonoma County Department of Human Services.
When civic steward, former senator, and philanthropist Becky Morgan envisioned the California Stewardship Network, it was to bring regional leaders together to address some of the state’s most pressing issues through a triple bottom line lens of economy, environment and equity.
“I’m so honored to be a leader with the amazing California Stewardship Network and CA Fwd teams – helping fulfill the legacy and vision started by Becky Morgan is incredibly rewarding,” said Drum.
First launched in 2008 by the Morgan Family Foundation, and after an integration with CA Fwd in 2019 – the network started with 14 foundational organizations and now contains more than 20 and growing, representing a diverse array of economies and regions from California.
“California Forward serves as the backbone for this growing network of regional leaders, committed to the triple bottom line of the economy, environment and equity,” said Micah Weinberg, CEO of CA Fwd. “We are delighted to welcome Heidi Hill Drum as co-chair of the California Stewardship Network and look forward to continuing to move our shared mission forward of inclusive and sustainable growth that helps Californians across every region prosper.”
The network continues to attract new leaders and organizations that are committed to its mission, which has become even more important as the state looks to recover from an economic crisis while addressing the inequities that have been present for far too long.
Drum added, “Serving as co-chair with Oscar Chavez to elevate the importance of California’s diverse regions means directly helping with the Governor’s economic recovery efforts to ensure triple-bottom line strategies are at the forefront of our future prosperity. We can and will do better for all residents of this great state."
CA Fwd and its California Stewardship Network believe that regions play a critical role in leading inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Regions are best equipped to address their challenges, understand the opportunities and leverage the assets available to them.
This regional approach has been a foundation of the California Economic Summit, which was created in partnership with the California Stewardship Network. Coming into its ninth year, the Summit influences CA Fwd and the network’s year-round work to address the challenges facing the state, especially along racial and geographic lines.
“Heidi Hill Drum is a long-standing civic steward who is committed to creating a better California for all, and I look forward to working with her even more closely as co-chair of the California Stewardship Network,” said Oscar Chavez, co-chair of the California Stewardship Network.
